Fernando Vidal-Vanaclocha, MD, PhD, Joins IMP as New Research Director

We are pleased to announce that Fernando Vidal-Vanaclocha, MD, PhD, research professor of biochemistry and molecular medicine at the George Washington University (GW) School of Medicine and Health Sciences, has been appointed to serve as IMP’s new research director.

Vidal-Vanaclocha brings more than 30 years of research experience in translational cancer metastasis and cancer microenvironment to IMP, and has been the founding scientific director of several translational research centers and biotech companies. He has also served as associate dean for research and international affairs, and for PhD studies in several medical schools in Spain. He has published more than 100 articles in important, peer-reviewed biomedical journals and is the editor of various specialty publications.  

Vidal-Vanaclocha also has served as chair of the organizing committee for important international scientific meetings in the fields of cancer and hepatic research. During the past 25 years, he has also been an adviser for roughly 50 PhD candidates. 

As IMP’s new research director, Vidal-Vanaclocha will assist with IMP’s Global Research Initiative by enhancing research collaborations with international medical and research institutions in Europe, the Middle East, and South America. As an international physician-scientist, he will support the management and coordination of the GW Global Physician Scientist and international scientific meetings. He will also provide international training courses in molecular and precision medicine and serve as a GW Global Health Mentor.  

Vidal-Vanaclocha began his new role as research director in December 2019.
