Clinical Rotations

Curriculum

The duration of the International Clinical Rotations is four weeks. Each student will be assigned a mentor or a preceptor at GW who will assess the student's performance and give him/her a written report or certificate upon completion of the rotation. Clinical rotations are available for students in the following areas, based upon availability:

  • Anesthesiology
  • Clinical Neuroscience
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Medicine and Subspecialties
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Pathology
  • Pediatrics and Subspecialties
  • Radiology
  • Surgery and Surgical Specialties

The GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) prefers to host students during the months of August through April, except for the winter holiday. SMHS will be unable to host students during the months of May, June, and July.

GW partners with many institutions around the world for students to participate in the International Clinical Electives Program. At this time, we only accept visiting scholars from the following institutions in which we have a formal and written affiliation agreement.

Evaluation

Each student will be assigned a mentor, who will assess the student's performance and give him/her a written evaluation. Upon completion of the clinical elective, students must submit a reflection paper or give an oral presentation about the experience.

Tuition & Fees

GW will not charge tuition and related fees to exchange students whom they host. Rather, students from partner universities will pay tuition and fees to their home institution. All other expenses are the responsibility of the student. Students selected must demonstrate that they have the necessary personal funds to meet their travel, living, and accommodation expenses.

In all cases, students are responsible for the expense of their room and board as well as the expense of traveling to and from the host country and host institution.
